Health & Life Skills

Teaching young people to make smart choices about their bodies, minds, and relationships.

The health and life skills programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha help young people develop habits and decision-making skills that will positively impact their lives. From nutrition education and physical fitness to conflict resolution and personal development, these nationally recognized programs from Boys & Girls Clubs of America address the whole child.

All programs are led by trained Youth Development Professionals and are included with youth membership.

Healthy Habits

Ages 6-12

Healthy Habits teaches members the fundamentals of nutrition, physical activity, and emotional well-being through age-appropriate lessons and hands-on activities. Members learn to read food labels, understand portion sizes, prepare healthy snacks, and build daily exercise habits.

Activities include cooking demonstrations, garden projects, fitness challenges, and mindfulness exercises. The program uses interactive games and group activities to make health education fun and memorable for young members.

SMART Moves

BGCA National Program

SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) is a nationally recognized prevention and education program that helps young people resist alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and premature sexual activity. Through engaging group discussions, role-playing scenarios, and peer-led activities, members develop the refusal skills and self-confidence they need to make positive choices.

The curriculum is designed to be age-appropriate and addresses real situations that young people face. Staff facilitators create a safe, supportive environment where members can ask questions and practice the skills they learn.

SMART Girls

Ages 9-12 BGCA National Program

SMART Girls is a health, fitness, and self-esteem enhancement program designed specifically for girls ages 9-12. Through interactive sessions, mentoring from caring adult women, and hands-on activities, members explore topics like body image, healthy relationships, self-advocacy, and personal values.

The program creates a safe, girls-only space where members can discuss challenges openly, build supportive friendships, and develop the confidence to be their authentic selves. Activities include journaling, creative projects, guest speakers, and community outreach.

Passport to Manhood

Ages 8-12 BGCA National Program

Passport to Manhood is a character development program for boys ages 8-12 that promotes positive values through 14 interactive sessions led by adult male mentors. Each session focuses on a different aspect of manhood, including responsibility, respect, communication, conflict resolution, and personal goal-setting.

Participants receive a personal "passport" that they stamp after completing each session, creating a tangible record of their journey. Group discussions, team activities, and real-world scenarios help boys develop a positive sense of identity and the skills to become caring, responsible young men.
